What we’ve seen in the last couple of years is for bathrooms not only to be comfortable and pretty but to serve as a relaxation space, a spa if you will. As you’ll imagine, we’re more at home and our bathrooms are the place to unwind and disconnect, so they can’t be just modern…they have to take you to a whole other place!
What’s In
Trends come and go, some are better left on the cover of a magazine; but here are some practical ones that are buzzing and might work for your place.
Back to earth
Creating a cozy and cocoon-like atmosphere is key, therefore accents in natural materials such as wood will be used as countertops to bring in the ruggedness and leave the all-white hospital vibes that are associated with this room. We know wood is not very water-friendly, as today there are many ceramics (and other materials) that resemble wood and are more water-resistant for a room that requires just that.
Color plays a key role in bringing nature to this space, so a coat of paint or wallpaper can do the trick. Experiment and be as wild as you can, to create your personal oases at home. On the same note, natural materials like stone can help to tie everything up! Quartz is a great option as it is stain and scratch-resistant, so very easy to maintain.
Metal To The Pedal
Meaning metals will always offer elegance and style, and will remain a staple in bathrooms. You can combine them with industrial touches of stainless steel or natural materials. Matte or satin finishes will be especially popular this year (especially matte black fixtures).
Another classic that will never go out of style are marble walls that contrast amazingly with the metal touches, giving it a modern 70’s flare to your bathroom.
The Bigger The Better
Big and customized and handmade bathroom tiles are in vogue. It is precisely their imperfections and size that convey the greatest visual appeal, not to mention it helps with cleaning…how you may ask? Less “white lines” in-between, less potentially gross black lines later.
Also, opt for big mirrors and why not make them backlit, not only will it create a great atmosphere with the lighting, it will also make you look extra fabulous every day!
Comfort is key
As mentioned before, austere looking (and feeling) bathrooms are out, the aesthetic is expensive spa at home. So aligned with the wooden touches to create a warm atmosphere, heated flooring is coming to make us feel like the queens and kings that we are, so bare feet… you’re welcome!
The whirlpool bathtubs are it! But they don’t need to be the size of the entire room or cost most of the budget of the renovation. The idea is to enjoy but keep the bathroom feeling spacious. On this subject, floating vanities are great to give an airy vibe (while being a storage space). This type of vanity also makes cleaning easier.
Make it Smart
We live in the times of smart devices, so why not make our bathroom smart? Smart lights, faucets…toilets! Yes, you read that correctly. Smart toilets aren’t only futuristic and help save water, but also have features and materials that make them more hygienic and less bacteria friendly. Futuristic bathroom and cleaner? Sign us up!
